
On July 15, a new executive regulation entered into force, which provides that some convicts in closed prisons who have three years left to be transferred to open prisons as of July 31 will be transferred to open prisons and released after three months.
The AKP and MHP included a new executive regulation in the draft law introducing an additional tax on motor vehicles tax to compensate for the economic losses caused by the October 6 earthquake. The new implementation regulation was approved at the Turkish Grand National Assembly General Assembly on July 14. After being approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TGNA), it entered into force through publication in the Official Gazette on July 15.
With the regulation, some convicts who were in prison until July 31 were given the opportunity to transfer from closed prisons to open prisons three years early and to be released from these prisons. According to the law, these convicts include those convicted of Decriminalization, Decapitation, sexual assault, sexual abuse of children, fraud, theft, looting, bribery and drug offenses, among dozens of crimes.
