Who is Eligible for a Residence Permit?
Foreigners who have resided in Turkey for at least eight consecutive years with a residence permit or who meet the conditions determined by the Migration Policy Board may be granted a long-term residence permit by the governor’s office with the approval of the Ministry.
Refugees, conditional refugees, and those with subsidiary protection status, as well as those with humanitarian residence permits and those under temporary protection, are not eligible for long-term residence permits.
For How Many Years Can a Long-Term Residence Permit Be Granted?
Long-term residence permits are granted indefinitely.
What Are the Requirements for a Long-Term Residence Permit?
In order for a long-term residence permit to be granted, foreigners must meet the conditions set forth in Article 43 of the Law.
– Having resided in Turkey for at least eight consecutive years with a residence permit (The eight-year consecutive period is calculated in accordance with Article 38 of the Law. The period of student residence permits counts as half, while other residence permits are counted in full.),
– Not having received social assistance in the past three years,
– Having sufficient and regular income to support oneself and one’s family, if applicable,
– Having valid health insurance,
– Not posing a threat to public order or public safety (except for foreigners deemed appropriate by the Immigration Policy Board)
What are the reasons for the rejection, cancellation, or non-extension of a Long-Term Residence Permit application?
– If a foreigner poses a serious threat to public order or public safety,
– If they have been outside Turkey for more than one year without interruption for any reason other than health, education, or mandatory public service in their country,
In this case, the long-term residence permit is canceled.
The cancellation of the long-term residence permit is carried out by the governor’s office.
