
CONDITIONS FOR BECOMING A TURKISH CITIZEN BY MARRIAGE
Firstly, marriage with a Turkish citizen does not automatically grant foreigners the right to become Turkish citizens. The conditions for becoming a Turkish citizen through marriage are defined in Article 16 of the Citizenship Law No. 5901. it is arranged in the article. According to the text of the relevant law, in order for a foreign national to become a citizen through his/her spouse, he/she must meet the following conditions:
The foreigner who will apply for citizenship must have been married to a Turkish citizen for at least 3 years and the marriage is ongoing;
The unification of spouses in a family union;
Not to act contrary to the marriage union;
Not being in a situation that would threaten public safety.
Foreigners who meet the above conditions can apply for citizenship to the governorates where the settlements are located. However, if the spouse of a Turkish citizen dies after the application date, the condition that the spouses live in a family union is not required.
The last paragraph of the text of the law concerns the status of a foreigner who has acquired Turkish citizenship as a result of the conclusion of a marriage. If a foreigner has good intentions in marriage, his citizenship will not be revoked.
