HOW TO MAKE A GENDER REASSİGNMENT?
The path that a person who wants to change his gender should follow is contained in Article 40 of Law No. 4721. As described in the above article, a person who wants to change his gender, whether personally or through a lawyer, can apply and ask the court to allow a gender change. However, in order for permission to be granted, the applicant must be over the age of eighteen and not be married; in addition, it is necessary to document that a transgender person is inevitable in terms of mental health and constantly lacks reproductive ability in terms of gender change with an official health board report to be obtained from an educational and research hospital.
If it is confirmed by the official medical board report that a sex change operation has been performed in accordance with the purpose and medical methods depending on the permission to be obtained, the court decides to make the necessary correction to the population record.
